An important message about taking the NC Concealed Carry Handgun Safety Course:

It may be tempting to take a shortcut in the training required for a Concealed Handgun Permit. However, it may not be worth it in the end. Sheriffs and the Department of Justice are aware that some instructors have been asked to cut corners in training, and they are looking into the problem. If you are trying to take a class shorter than 8 hours it could compromise your application process. To be sure you are receiving the proper training, register for one of our classes or call us for a reference in your area.

Training Philosophy

TCG uses a team approach to teaching as is consistent with the NRA way. Safety is a primary concern, and all of our instructors are certified Range Safety Officers or Chief Range Safety Officers.

Training Experience

Troy Perry is a Private Investigator and instructor for Catawba Valley Community College in the School of Public Safety. He has been teaching self-defense since 1989 and in 2001 added firearms safety and marksmanship instruction to the list of services he provides. Troy has served in the US Marine Corps, has a BS in Criminal Justice, is a Black Belt in Kempo Karate and is certified through the NRA as a Range Safety Officer & Basic Pistol Shooting instructor. Troy has also been certified by the NC Department of Justice to teach the Concealed Carry Handgun Safety class.

Troy is also the lead investigator and general manager for The Contingency Group's Investigations and Security Consulting Division. Originally licensed in 1996, he has been serving the Charlotte area in the private protective services profession for nearly 15 years. Troy has provided executive protection and site security management in Central America, the US and Canada. Executive protection details have included NASCAR drivers as well as political dignitaries in operations both foreign and domestic. Troy's list of certifications and memberships are available upon request.
